Fluffy Layered Biscuits Recipe

★Ingredients

2 cups self-rising flour (no extra salt, baking powder, or soda needed)

1/2 cup lard, shortening, or butter (use butter if preferred)

1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk if you want a tangy flavor)

1 Tbsp sugar (optional)

★Directions

  1. Prep the Dough: Sift the flour into a mixing bowl. Work the butter (or other fat) into the flour. Add milk and mix gently to create a wet, sticky dough.
  2. Shape the Dough:

Lightly flour a work surface and turn out the dough.

Lightly toss the dough in flour, just enough to keep it from sticking.

Shape into a square, then fold each side towards the center to add layers. Repeat to create more layers.

  1. Cut and Arrange Biscuits:

Cut biscuits straight down without twisting the cutter.

Place biscuits in a lightly oiled cast-iron skillet, so they touch for extra height.

  1. Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden.

Enjoy your warm, flaky biscuits!
