Chocolate Cake Batter Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water or hot coffee (for richer flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat with a mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  4. Add hot water/coffee: Slowly mix in the boiling water or hot coffee. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay—it makes the cake moist.
  5. Pour into pans: Divide the batter evenly between your prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool before removing from pans and frosting.
